Hi Ginger!
This kitchen makeover is going to be so bright and beautiful! Congratulations on taking the first step in the remodeling process. The overall color scheme of this room is light and neutral with a small hint of blue to add some life. The wood tones in the dining room add warmth and character to the space. Patterns are brought in through the window treatments. Pops of black throughout tie into the existing countertops. Overall, this makeover is very kid-friendly and I hope you enjoy this with your family. Thank you for the opportunity to help with your beautiful home!

The dining room wall color could be any of these 3 shades. I suggest the Light French Gray because it has just the right amount of blue and gray to make a statement without being too over-the-top blue. If you want more color in the room, I suggest trying the Rocky Mountain Sky or Reflecting Pool if you want less color. I highly suggest testing these colors on your wall before investing time and money into painting to make sure you love the color.
Simply White by Benjamin Moore is such a classic, bright color choice. I suggest painting the cabinets this color and the walls surrounding. Painting the same color on the cabinets and walls will help keep a consistent flow and make that free space above the cabinets less noticeable. If you love a bright look throughout the entire space, you could also paint the dining space this white color as well. If not, use the half wall by the sliding door and kitchen cabinets to split the dining paint and the kitchen paint.
The framed painting complements the blue/gray wall color perfectly and adds a nice, calm color scheme to the room. The buffet adds much needed closed storage which is perfect with little kids. The chairs and table are kid-friendly and wipeable. The curtains add a dark color to add interest and character through the pattern. Mount the curtains as close to the ceiling as possible while still having the bottom of the curtains touch the floor. Also mount the ends about 6-12 inches wider than the sliding door. This will make the ceiling look higher and cover up more wall space.
White subway tile with white or light gray grout will be a classic and timeless choice. I love a dark countertop with this option because first, it will save you money, and second, it provides a beautiful contrast against all the white. The roman shade adds so much character to the space with a small pop of color that pairs perfectly with the dining room colors. I do suggest going with a white sink and a polished nickel faucet to make more of a statement. The hardware is round to soften the room and dark to tie into the countertops. Last, we switch out the fan with a flushmount light that will make a big statement in the room.
This stool adds a modern farmhouse feel to the space. The color ties in perfectly with the dark countertops and pops of black throughout. These are very inexpensive as well.
This stool adds a rustic farmhouse feel to the space. These are adjustable and add so much character to the room.
This stool adds a modern feel to the room, which will provide a stunning contrast against the farmhouse elements. If you want to make a statement, definitely go with this option! I also love these because they are great with kids having a full back and easy to wipe clean. The clear seat also will make the space feel bigger since it is so visually light.
Here are some other options to consider! A dark table paired with a white wood chair which are all still great for kids. The curtains add more of the blue color, but a little darker. Switch out the buffet for a white hutch to display your pretty dishes or decor.
